Software Engineer, Internal Tools
Description
L9 builds companies, and we build the software those companies run on.
When a workflow is slow because the available tool is bad, we would rather replace the tool than accept the workflow. That can mean email, chat, dashboards, support tools, deployment systems, automations, or something that does not have a name yet.
The work changes often. You might ship a small tool in a day, then spend the next month replacing a system the company depends on.
This is not a role for maintaining one narrow product surface. You will find problems, decide what should exist, build it, and keep it reliable.
What you'll do
- Find slow, repetitive, or unnecessarily complicated work
- Talk to the people doing that work and understand what is actually broken
- Design and build the tool that removes the problem
- Own projects across frontend, backend, infrastructure, automation, and product
- Replace outside software when building our own gives us a real advantage
- Keep internal systems simple, fast, and dependable
Good fit
- Build production software quickly without making future work miserable
- Comfortable owning a project from vague problem to working system
- Move easily between product decisions and technical implementation
- Prefer small, boring systems over elaborate architecture
- Care about interface details because internal users are still users
- Question tools and processes that everyone else has learned to tolerate
- Use whatever helps you work better, including AI
- Do not need a roadmap, a large team, or a pile of meetings to make progress
If a bad internal process annoys you enough that you start building its replacement before anyone asks, you will probably like this job.
